Wednesday, January 6, is a day that will unfortunately be lodged in our memories for far too long. It was a day of shock, a day of disgust, a day of nationwide instability and a day of embarrassment for our country. We witnessed firsthand acts of violence, lawlessness, and insurgency as a mob of OUR citizens laid siege to OUR nation’s Capitol building. Those actions were not only uncharacteristic of OUR America, but they were also UNAMERICAN and a violation of, in the words of Mayor McClure, SACRED GROUND.

I recognize the impact seeing such actions may have our tireless and dedicated City of Springfield employees and provide this video message as words of thanks to our public servants here and across our great country. As Springfieldians and Missourians, we have an opportunity to demonstrate how we place the needs of the multitude ahead of the wants of individuals. I encourage us all to be America’s shining example!
