Shock, also called as Circulatory Shock, is the state of insufficient blood flow to the body tissues owing to impairment in functions of Circulatory System. The delivery of oxygen (DO2) is calculated via formula. Shock can cause renal failure, gastrointestinal lesions and Respiratory System failure.
The general approach to the patient involves early recognition of a range of medical conditions like diaphoresis, hypotension and tachypnea. Physical examination involves the recording of heart and respiratory rate along with the pulse, blood pressure and oximetry.
Additionally, diagnostic testing can be done via initial screening or case by case screening. Shock can be classified into various types viz hypovolemic and cardiogenic shock, distributive and neurogenic shockalongside obstructive shock. General treatment principles involve volume intervention, oxygenation and vasoactive agents. It also includes Blood Transfusion and cardiac intervention.
