As someone who likes to hike naked, it’s really intimidating if doing it alone. The feeling is always there that if you see people whilst out, they’ll automatically assume you’re up to no good. Whilst acknowledging there are some unsavoury people about, it’s highly unlikely they’ll be waiting in the middle of nowhere to freak you out.
For many of us who enjoy the freedom of nudity, there’s the feeling of safety in numbers, but we can’t always go nude hiking with others, and we can feel fear when alone. The fear someone will be abusive. The fear someone will go to the press to try and humiliate you. The fear someone will call the police. Yet in much of Britain there’s nothing illegal in being naked in public.
If you do see someone hiking nude, then rather than assume they’re up to no good, try and say hello, or even have a chat with them. They’re really not trying to shock you, so please, if you see us, be kind to us.
